Thank you for your interest in joining the 2019 Arsenal!

All percussionists that wish to audition for the 2019 Arsenal are asked to download and read the 2019 Arsenal Percussion Welcome Letter at the bottom of the page. This letter will give you a rundown of what to prepare for your audition, as well as a list of things to bring to camp with you.

If you are unable to attend one of our three experience camps and would still like to audition, please see the video audition guidelines below. Video auditions are free, and MUST BE SUBMITTED TO CHRIS LAWHORNE, PERCUSSION CAPTION HEAD, NO LATER THAN 6:00PM MDT ON APRIL 6, 2019 Contracts will not be rewarded on the basis of video auditions alone- potential members must attend at least one camp to secure a contract, except for extenuating circumstances wherein camp attendance is impossible (eg, international students).

Please find the most updated packet for the BATTERY on the bottom of the page along with the Front Ensemble Packet.

FOR VIDEO AUDITIONS ONLY

BATTERY
Play everything at a comfortable tempo, with the consideration that everything should be at marching tempo, or quicker (between 108 – 144); playing with good tempo and technique is what is most important.

FRONTLINE

– key of c minor
– both played with forte and “natural” dynamics. (“natural” dynamics explained in the packet)

Surge Strokes

Lonnie

– 1243 permutation (16th note rhythms)

Solo:
– Those auditioning for a keyboard spot prepare a keyboard solo or section of one.

– Those auditioning for a percussion spot prepare to know their 40 rudiments by memory, a funk groove, a rock groove, a Latin groove, and a swing groove. A section of a snare solo is recommended if there’s one the student can prepare.

-Those auditioning on synth, prepare your major/minor/diminished/augmented/ seven chords to be called out. Also prepare a piano solo or section of a solo of your choice.

Important to remember: play everything at a comfortable tempo, playing with good tempo and technique or what’s most important.
